Opportunities and Scholarships

Volunteers sought for research study on driver behavior. To participate, volunteers must be a licensed driver, have at least one year of driving experience, be between 18- and 75-years-old, and not require glasses to drive (contacts are acceptable). Participation in this study involves a time commitment of approximately 1 hour, visiting the OSU Driving Simulator for study activities, and a onetime payment of $20. EERI/FEMA 2017/2018 Graduate Fellowships in Earthquake Hazard Reduction. EERI is pleased to announce the availability of two graduate fellowships for the 2017-2018 academic year to support two full-time students in a discipline contributing to the science and practice of earthquake hazard mitigation. The one-year fellowships, underwritten with funds provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, are designed to foster the participation of capable individuals in working toward goals and activities of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program. Oregon’s first full-scale straw bale commercial building, the Mahonia, is a mixed-use new building that will feature an unusual hybrid system of wood framing and straw bale. Students are invited to participate in a hands-on workshop that will allow to participants to experience all aspects of the process from the bale raising to the earth plaster finishing. The three-day workshop will feature additional education options on practical applications of salvage materials and solar in commercial construction. Location: 120 Shelton McMurphey Boulevard, Eugene, Oregon. Dates: Early to mid September (to be determined), over a weekend. Cost: Free.
