Fellowship Opportunities for Graduate Students

PROJECT MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE Scholarship Program is designed to financially assist qualified applicants in obtaining degrees in project management or any field with any relation to project management. The program is open to any student preparing to enter or already attending an accredited degree-granting college or university and pursuing a bachelor, master’s or doctoral degree. Scholarships are awarded based on merit as measured by academic performance and extracurricular activities. The applicant’s intended field of study is also considered in the evaluation process with preference given to those candidates pursuing a degree in project management or a directly related field of study. Madison & Lila Self Graduate Fellowship - for individuals who intend to pursue a doctorate in physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, business, economics, or biological and pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Kansas. Apply by February 4, 2010. Details here

The Link Foundation Doctoral Research Fellowships in Ocean Engineering and Instrumentation - will award several $25,000 doctoral research fellowships per year to candidates currently enrolled in academic institutions in either the United States or Canada. The application, in the form of a research proposal, must be received by January 15, 2010Details

SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program - a highly-selective, prestigious, national program that includes full tuition and a very generous stipend in the range of $25,000 a year for undergraduates and $41,000 for doctoral candidates while they are in school. It also includes a book allowance of $1,000 a year, health insurance, summer internships, and travel fees for internships. Students must be U.S. Citizens, able to obtain a DoD Security Clearance, and be willing to work in a defense laboratory upon graduation. There will be approximately 300 new awards this year. The Department of Energy has established the DOE Office of Science Graduate Fellowship  program to support outstanding students to pursue graduate training in basic research in areas of physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computational sciences, and environmental sciences relevant to the Office of Science and to encourage the development of the next generation scientific and technical talent in the US. Each fellowship award will be $50,500 per year for three years to provide support for tuition, living expenses, research materials and travel to research conferences. Fellowships awarded in the first year will be funded in part by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The application deadline is November 30, 2009. EERI PAPER COMPETITION - to promote active involvement of students in earthquake engineering and the earthquake hazards community.The paper must be an original contribution in a discipline directly related to earthquake engineering or earthquake hazard reduction; must not exceed 12 pages in length inclusive of all tables and figures; and, must represent the original work of the student and be authored by the student alone. A faculty member or other advisor may not co-author the paper. Guidelines for preparing the manuscript can be obtained from the EERI web site (http://www.eeri.org/site/paper-comp#details). OSU Student Sustainability Initiative - is accepting grant applications for student projects. This means that as a student, you can apply for a sustainability related project. There are $12,000 available for next year in grants, and one single project may apply for up to $6,000 dollars. Projects that benefit sustainability, OSU students, and the SSI's mission, "supporting student efforts to create a sustainable community at OSU through opportunity, education, and action" are more likely to be funded. Application due November 13, 2009Full details and application here. 

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) provides students with three years of funding, up to $121,500, for research-focused Master’s and PhD degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields. Anchor Environmental Scholarship - an environmental science and engineering consulting firm whose expertise and focus is in aquatic-based remediation and waterfront development projects. To promote and help support those who have chosen these fields of study, Anchor has established a scholarship fund to assist graduate students in their pursuit of higher education. Full-time graduate students or persons accepted to an United States graduate school; Undergraduate GPA equivalent of B average or higher; Majoring in: fisheries; environmental sciences; planning/land use; landscape architecture; or coastal, geotechnical or environmental engineering (any of which has an aquatic/waterfront emphasis).  Applications are due November 9, 2009Full details.

AGC Foundation National Graduate Scholarship - College seniors enrolled in an undergraduate construction management or construction-related engineering degree program, or others possessing an undergraduate degree in construction management or construction-related engineering are eligible to apply. The applicant must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a graduate level construction management or construction-related engineering degree program as a full-time student. $7,500. Deadline November 1, 2009. The OSU Graduate School is pleased to announce the Jesse M. Bell Memorial Graduate Student Loan Program which was created by the estate of Jesse Bell for the purpose of providing loans for worthy graduate students of high scholastic standing to enable their pursuit of graduate study in an OUS institution. These non-need-based loans are available on a one-time basis to enrolled graduate students to assist with educational and/or research expenses associated their advanced degrees. Both domestic and international degree-seeking graduate students may be considered. Loans up to $5,000 are anticipated, and will be dependent upon the merits of the case, the loan demand, and the current balance available in the loan fund. The OSU Graduate School administers an endowment fund created to honor Irma Delson, who dedicated her many years at OSU to serving students from all over the world. The Delson Bridge to the Future Fund is designed to assist students in the final phase of their graduate education to pay research expenses, publication costs, and other incidentals that stand in the way of completing their studies. American Society for Nondestructive Testing - offers a cash award, currently up to $15,000 per award, granted to an educational institution to fund specific research in NDT at the postgraduate level (MS or PhD). Deadline to apply is October 15, 2009. Full details. (Biographical date sheet here)

Sigma Xi is a scientific organization that offers grants-in-aid to fund research by undergraduate and graduate students in science and engineering disciplines. Application deadlines : March 15 and October 15 annually. More information and application forms at http://www.sigmaxi.org/programs/giar.

American Concrete Institute Scholarship There are many ACI Fellowship and ACI Scholarship opportunities for ACI Student E-Members attending school in the U.S. or Canada. Awarded annually, ACI Fellowships and ACI Scholarships help students with an interest in concrete achieve their educational and career goals. Applications due October 30, 2009. Details.

ACI Foundation Fellowships - offered to high-potential undergraduate and graduate students whose studies relate to concrete and are identified by ACI-Member Faculty. The Student Fellowship can have a nominal term of up to two academic years, renewed annually, and may extend through graduate study. Annual renewal will be subject to renomination and reapplication. These awards are granted based on the availability of contributions received. Applications due October 30, 2009. Details.

Howard Preston Scholarship Award - the Columbia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers invites applications for their two $1000 scholarships. Must be a junior or grad student with US citizenship, 3.0 GPA or higher, and have parents in or graduated from high school within these boundaries: Washington counties that include Yakima, Klickitat, Benton, Frankling, Walla Walla, and Columbia; or Oregon counties that include Morrow, Umatilla, Union, and Wallowa. The School of Civil and Construction Engineering invites applications for their $1000 to $2000 scholarships awarded by the school. Application here. Deadline to apply is May 15, 2009.

The Green Technology Entrepreneurship Academy - offers a one-week entrepreneurship academy for science and engineering PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and faculty working on research in green and sustainable technologies who want to take the first steps toward commercializing their research, launching a venture and moving their ideas out of the lab and into the world. The academy is open to applicants from national and international universities. Accepted applicants receive fellowships to cover room, board and tuition Applications due by May 15, 2009. The Airport Cooperative Research Program announces the Graduate Research Award Program on Public-Sector Aviation Issues, sponsored by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of The National Academies, offers full-time graduate-level students the opportunity to earn a one-year stipend of $10,000 by preparing a research paper on an aviation subject of their choosing.  Successful papers will be presented at the January 2011 TRB Annual Meeting, and exceptional papers could be published in a subsequent TRB Transportation Research Record.  Details here. Wire Reinforcement Institute Education Foundation Scholarship - for graduate students pursuing degrees in structural and/or civil engineering at accredited four-year universities or colleges. Scholarships, ranging from $2,500 up to $5,000 are awarded for a specified single academic year. Deadline to apply is April 15, 2009. Details here.

The Structural Engineers Foundation (SEF) is currently accepting applications for the upcoming academic year for undergraduate and graduate students studying structural engineering. Applicants will be evaluated based upon scholarship, leadership, and academic involvement. Up to four scholarships will be awarded, each in the amount of $2,000. One of the four scholarships, the Max Zar scholarship, will be awarded to students enrolled in a school in Illinois. We are also introducing a scholarship directed for students of Hispanic descent. The Graduate School is pleased to announce the University Club Foundation Graduate Fellowship Program will be offered again this year to recognize and encourage scholarship, demonstrated leadership, and potential societal contributions by among students pursuing graduate education in Oregon. Nominations will be accepted up until April 13.  Details here.

Structural Engineers Association of Oregon Scholarship- a merit-based and need-based scholarship established to recognize and financially assist students interested in structures. The qualified candidate is an established local resident pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a Master of Science in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in structures. ADSC: The International Association of Foundation Drilling is an organization of contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, and engineers in the foundation drilling and anchored earth retention industries, invites applicants to apply for $3,000 graduate study in civil engineering scholarships. A minimum of 14 scholarships are awarded for each academic year. Both full-time and part-time students are considered for these awards. These outstanding students are invited to be our guest at the ADSC's Annual Meeting to receive their scholarships in person, to meet our association's members, and to see our industry in action. The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Scholarship Graduate Program provides financial assistance to women admitted to accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs, in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science. SWE Scholarships are only open to women pursuing baccalaureate or graduate degrees in engineering or computer science, as well as engineering and computer science students enrolled in ABET-accredited engineering programs. AMERICAN SHOTCRETE ASSOCIATION - is accepting applications to attract, identify, and assist outstanding graduate students pursuing careers within the field of concrete with a significant interest in the shotcrete process. Two $3,000 awards are available; one scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student attending an accredited college or university within the United States and the second scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student attending Laval University in Canada.
