Fellowship Opportunities for Graduate Students

AGC Foundation National Graduate Scholarship - College seniors enrolled in an undergraduate construction management or construction-related engineering degree program, or others possessing an undergraduate degree in construction management or construction-related engineering are eligible to apply. The applicant must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a graduate level construction management or construction-related engineering degree program as a full-time student. $7,500. Deadline November 1, 2008. DAVIS LANGDON SCHOLARSHIP - $5000 for full-time graduate or undergraduate students (junior year and beyond) in good standing; can demonstrate a financial need; has a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0; and is a US citizenship / permanent resident. AMERICAN SHOTCRETE ASSOCIATION - is accepting applications to attract, identify, and assist outstanding graduate students pursuing careers within the field of concrete with a significant interest in the shotcrete process. Two $3,000 awards are available; one scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student attending an accredited college or university within the United States and the second scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student attending Laval University in Canada. PROJECT MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE Scholarship Program is designed to financially assist qualified applicants in obtaining degrees in project management or any field with any relation to project management. The program is open to any student preparing to enter or already attending an accredited degree-granting college or university and pursuing a bachelor, master’s or doctoral degree. Scholarships are awarded based on merit as measured by academic performance and extracurricular activities. The applicant’s intended field of study is also considered in the evaluation process with preference given to those candidates pursuing a degree in project management or a directly related field of study. The Rhodes, Marshall, Gates, and Mitchell Scholarships are highly competitive and prestigious post-graduate scholarship opportunities for the nation's very best undergraduate scholars. Preliminary applications for the 2009-2010 competition are now being solicited. Interested students are asked to contact OSU institutional representative Dr. Bob Smythe at smythe@science.oregonstate.edu or 541-737-3480 as soon as possible, preferably no later than May 16th, 2008. DUPREE CONSTRUCTION EDUCATION FUND - Scholarship(s) of at least $5,000 each will be awarded. Applicants must be accepted in a Masters or PhD construction-related program, in an  institution with an ACCE-accredited program. Deadline to apply is May 1, 2008Full details and application.

 

Wire Reinforcement Institute Education Foundation Scholarship - awards in amounts ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 to any deserving high school senior, high school graduate, current undergraduate or graduate level school student intending to or presently pursuing pursuing four-year undergraduate or graduate level degrees in structural and/or civil engineering at an accredited university. Madison & Lila Self Graduate Fellowship - for individuals who intend to pursue a doctorate in physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, business, economics, or biological and pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Kansas. This highly selective four-year fellowship offers a $24,000 annual stipend, covers full tuition and fees, and provides a unique professional development program. The total value of the four-year fellowship exceeds $135,000.We're looking for U.S. citizens who have a vision, the ability to set and achieve goals, leadership potential, and a strong work ethic. Self Fellows demonstrate initiative and a passion for achievement and lifelong learning. In short, we're looking for tomorrow's leaders. Self Fellows participate in a development program that provides general education and training in communication, management, and leadership, complementing the specialized education and training provided in their Ph.D. programs. Willis Research Fellowship - a 3-year appointment for a postdoctoral scholar dealing with catastrophe risk. The Willis Research Network (WRN) offers one 3-year fully supported fellowship for a postdoctoral scholar at University of Colorado at Boulder. WRN is a new, global organization supporting academic research through publication, peer review and presentation at internationally recognized conferences in relation to challenges facing the international insurance and reinsurance market. The research will focus on financial risk in catastrophes: the potential for economic loss in future earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and other disasters. It will be performed under the supervision of Keith Porter, Associate Research Professor. Research themes may include business interruption (economic losses associated with the inability to carry on business after a disaster), demand surge (post-disaster increase in repair costs relative to pre-disaster conditions), and effects of observable building features on seismic risk (the tendency for certain features such as soft story to increase loss relative to comparable buildings without the feature). 2008 James D. Cooper student paper competition - is open to college and university engineering students in the United States and worldwide, divided into undergraduate and graduate competitions. The lead author of the winning paper in each category (undergraduate and graduate) will receive a $1000 IBC Fellowship, complimentary conference registration and hotel and travel allowances to attend the 25th International Bridge Conference, June 2-4 2008, in Pittsburgh PA. Both winning papers will be considered for inclusion in the published proceedings and for presentation at the conference. Papers should fall within one of the IBC Technical Session Topics listed at http://www.eswp.com/bridge/abstract.htm. Papers prepared for other purposes (thesis, projects, etc) are acceptable. Manuscripts are limited to ten (10) pages single spaced 12 point text (no exceptions). Papers must be authored only by students; papers co-authored by advisors are not eligible. Papers will be judged by an international committee of engineers and academics. Papers must be submitted no later than March 1, 2008. Entries must be submitted in Adobe PDF format to kharries@engr.pitt.edu and must be accompanied by the attached entry form.Winning entries will be notified by April 1, 2008. Invitations to present or submit for proceedings will also be made at this time.

Central Europe Summer Research Institute Program - provides US graduate students in the sciences and engineering with a high-quality international summer research experience in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland or Slovakia. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the CESRI program sends enrolled U.S. graduate students in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental science, or mathematics for 8 weeks to receive a relevant laboratory experience in Central Europe in the sciences. In the past two years, grantees have travelled to Central Europe to work on a wide range of projects, from studying the properties of Roman concrete, studying genes that confer disease resistance and working on improved data transmission on wireless networks. Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM) Graduate Fellowship Program - to help U.S. Department of Energy and OCRWM meet their expected personnel needs for ongoing research and development programs in the management of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. The Link Foundation Doctoral Research Fellowships in Ocean Engineering and Instrumentation - will award several $25,000 doctoral research fellowships per year to candidates currently enrolled in academic institutions in either the United States or Canada. The application, in the form of a research proposal, must be received by January 18, 2008Details.

American Society for Nondestructive Testing - offers a cash award, currently up to $15,000 per award, granted to an educational institution to fund specific research in NDT at the postgraduate level (MS or PhD). Deadline to apply is November 26, 2007. Full details. ( Biographical date sheet here.)

The OSU Graduate School is accepting applications for the 2007-08 Oregon Laurels and Supplemntal Laurels Graduate Scholarships. Deadline is Monday, November 12, 2007.

Anchor Environmental Scholarship - for graduate students majoring in one of the following areas: fisheries; environmental sciences; planning/land use; landscape architecture; or coastal, geotechnical, hydraulic or environmental engineering (any of which with an aquatic/waterfront emphasis). Applications are due November 13, 2007Full details.

ETS Fellowship and Internship Programs - seek scholars who either hold a doctoral degree or who are enrolled in a doctoral program in the field of educational research and who are interested in research opportunities. NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) provides students with three years of funding -- up to $121,500 -- for research-focused Master’s and PhD degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields. Delson Bridge to the Future Fund - created to honor Irma Delson, who dedicated her many years at OSU to serving students from all over the world and designed to assist students in the final phase of their graduate education to pay research expenses, publication costs, and other incidentals that stand in the way of completing their studies. Graduate programs that become aware of emergency situations involving students at the end of their programs may submit requests for limited assistance to offset financial difficulties and promote degree completion. Jesse M. Bell Memorial Graduate Student Loan Program which was created by the estate of Jesse Bell for the purpose of providing loans for worthy graduate students of high scholastic standing to enable their pursuit of graduate study in an OUS institution. These non-need-based loans are available on a one-time basis to enrolled graduate students to assist with educational and/or research expenses associated their advanced degrees. Both domestic and international degree-seeking graduate students may be considered. Loans up to $5,000 are anticipated, and will be dependent upon the merits of the case, the loan demand, and the current balance available in the loan fund.
