OSU Beam Team - National Champs! |
Congratulations to our OSU Beam Team who placed FIRST at nationals -- our third national championship (2004, 2009 and 2011) in the Big Beam Contest! The International PCI Engineering Student Design Competition, also known as the Big Beam Contest, entails the design, fabrication and testing of precast, prestressed concrete beams by student teams under the guidance of local PCI producer members. Prizes are awarded for most efficient design, highest load capacity, and best report, among multiple categories. First place winners of the zone competitions move up to the international competition to be judged against one another to determine the overall champion. See the top seven winning team results here. Quoting team advisor Dr. Keith Kaufman, (Chief Engineer, Knife River Corporation Northwest), “I believe we shall call this a DYNASTY. It is a great day to be a BEAVER!” Watch the winning beam break here.
