NOV 3, Tues – Prof. Paul Jowitt (Heriot Watt University) is president elect of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the oldest civil engineering association in the world. Join us to watch Dr. Jowitt's live acceptance speech. Kiewit Conference Room, 111C Kearney Hall, 10:00 am. Dr. Jowitt is our honored speaker for the annual spring Kiewit Lecture Series.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

CCE faculty members, Karen Dixon, Ida van Schalkwyk, and Bob Layton are recipients of TRB's K.B. Woods Award for their research paper on, “Balancing Urban Driveway Design Demands Based on Stopping Sight Distance.” This annual award is given for the best paper in the area of design and construction. The group will accept the award at the Transportation Research Board’s annual meeting Washington, DC in January 2010.
Congratulations to Mr. Neil Kopper (MSCE ‘10) for his award-winning presentation, “Safety at High Speed Isolated Signalized Intersections” at the Oregon Transportation Safety Conference in Hood River on October 29. Neil’s was selected as best student presentation among those from OIT, PSU and other colleagues from OSU, and will receive a $400 award from OTREC.

Winter term PINs are available. If your Spring term GPA was 2.5 or higher, pick up your audit sheet and PIN from Julie in Owen 220. If your GPA was below 2.5, or you were not enrolled at OSU Spring term, you must see an advisor to receive your PIN. Sandy and Theresa will take appointments for scheduling advising through the online scheduling at, https://secure.engr.oregonstate.edu/auth/index.php?service=cce_advising.
Freshmen: Monday – Friday November 2 - 6.
Phase I registration does not begin until November 15. If you have career advising questions, please contact your faculty advisor.

NOV 3, Tuesday – AGC Speaker Meeting. 212 Kearney Hall, 6pm. Hamilton Construction Co., specializes in heavy construction including bridges, railroad trestles, cofferdams, highway interchanges, specialized foundation work, overlays, project management for a variety of owners, private and public. Hamilton enjoys a strong reputation and has worked with many of their clients for decades. Food and drinks provided.
NOV 3, Tuesday – ITE Speaker Meeting. The Transpo Group. 102 Owen Hall, 6pm.
NOV 5, Thursday - AGC Speaker Meeting, 102 Owen Hall, 6pm, “Seattle Municipal Tower Project.” Andersen Construction Co. has been building in the Western United States since 1950. With offices in Oregon and Idaho, Andersen’s portfolio includes commercial, retail, high tech, cultural, education, government, health care, hospitality, urban housing, industrial and manufacturing, parking structures, tenant improvements, seismic upgrades and remediation. Food and drinks provided.
NOV 5, Thursday - The Concrete Canoe Team will meet in 111 Merryfield Hall at 5:30 PM. We will divide into two groups for the evening; one group will start construction on the mold that we will use to build our canoe, and the other group will pour some concrete test cylinders for our mix design. As we are having both events on the same night we will need as many people as possible to come out and help. If you have any questions please contact team Co-Captains Brian Gray or Mark Barrett.
NOV 10, Tuesday – ITE Speaker Meeting. Kittelson and Associates, “Careers in Transportation, Business Models, and You,” 212 Kearney Hall, 6pm. ITE Traffic Bowl (McMenamins Edgefield) on November 19, Thursday

OSU ITE will compete in the annual event in which we challenge other schools in a traffic jeopardy game. Come cheer on your peers while enjoying a free dinner. EERI SEISMIC DESIGN COMPETITION - EERI Student Leadership Council (SLC) announces that the Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition (SDC) rules are updated and posted online. (Registration form and updated rules here.) Team registration forms must be submitted via email to seismic.design.competition@gmail.com by November 20, 2009. This year's competition is February 3-6, 2010 in San Francisco during the EERI annual meeting. EERI will provide partial financial support for participating teams, but the exact amount of support will not be known until the number of teams is finalized. Interested students should contact Prof. Thomas.Miller@oregonstate.edu.
