SEASONAL FLU SHOTS for students, faculty and staff on Sept. 29-30 at the Memorial Union, Room 109, 10 am to 3 pm both days. Please bring your insurance card and OSU ID card. No appointment is necessary. No H1N1 vaccinations will be available at these MU clinics.
PEER MENTORS NEEDED for the 10am and 4pm sections of CCE 201, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The prospective mentor should be proficient with AutoCAD. Interested students should contact Niki.Schulz@oregonstate.edu, 244 Owen Hall.
PEER MENTORS FOR STATICS - Seeking volunteers to help static students with problem-solving. This is a great opportunity to help others while gaining some resume-building experience. You'll work with students during lectures and then in additional group tutoring sessions. If you got a B or better in statics and are available Wednesdays 9-10, email Dr. Rodriguez-Nikl at rodrigto@engr.orst.edu for more information.
BENTON DAY OF CARING - Hundreds of volunteers spent part of their day working at local nonprofits painting, doing yard work, sorting, and giving other much needed help. A large group of OSU volunteers worked with the Facilities Services group and helped with landscape maintenance (i.e., weeding!) at Kearney Hall. Thanks to both United Way and Facilities Services for their help; we look beautiful!
OPEN PARKING – in all student lots through October 9, 2009.

Record Number of Oregon State Engineering Faculty Receive 2009 NSF CAREER Awards (OSU-COE)
Prof Michael Scott and four other faculty in the College of Engineering at Oregon State University have been recognized this year with prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER Awards, each of which provides funding of at least $400,000 for a new research project with an educational/outreach component. Prior to 2009, no more than three OSU engineering faculty have won CAREER Awards in the same year.
Ore. workshops planned on tsunami buildings (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)
Should an earthquake generate a tsunami on the Oregon coast, there might be only 20 minutes to get to high ground. But regional leaders, engineers and scientists plan to gather next week in Cannon Beach and Portland to talk about a different option - a tsunami evacuation building, or TEB. Japan has about a dozen such buildings that have been around 15 to 20 years, said Harry Yeh, the Edwards professor of coastal and ocean engineering at Oregon State University. Taylor Kavanaugh has been named to the 12-member 2009 Allstate Insurance Company and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) “Good Works Team.” Taylor graduated from our CEM program last spring, and is the team’s starting punt returner and holder, and a reserve receiver. GRADUATING THIS YEAR?
Applying for Bachelor's Degree and Graduation
Students should consult with their advisor to check progress toward graduation requirements. Progress will be based on the formally declared major, minors, options, degree, and other applicable requirements. Prior to submitting an application for graduation the student is responsible for verifying that all of the aforementioned components of their declared program(s) are accurate and complete. Applications are submitted via Student Online Services to the Office of the Registrar. They may be filed up to three terms before the expected graduation term so progress can be monitored each term. However, applications must be submitted no later than the end of the second week of the term in which the student plans to complete degree requirements. The Registrar’s Office checks for total credits, academic residency, total upper-division credits and grade point average.
Once the application has been filed, the Office of the Registrar will audit and return two copies to the college each term—one for the advisor and one for the student. Audits are normally available three (3) weeks after the start of the term.
Students who wish to change graduation dates or program information after the first application must cancel their existing application for graduation and file an new application in accordance with the stated deadline.
Additionally, please be aware that all corresponding transcripts are sealed, meaning the academic record cannot be altered, by the Office of the Registrar 90 days after the conferral of a degree. This ensures that the academic course work that reflects the components that substantiated the awarding of the degree is accurately and permanently recorded.
