MAY 6, Wednesday - Speeding Up MATLAB Applications, presented by Saket Kharsikr, M.S. Application Engineer. We will demonstrate simple ways to improve and optimize your code that can boost execution speed by orders of magnitude. We will also address common pitfalls in writing M-code, explore the use of the MATLAB Profiler to find bottlenecks, and briefly introduce the use of Parallel Computing Toolbox and MATLAB Distributed Computing Server to solve computationally and data-intensive problems on multicore computers and clusters. LEARNING LAB (302 Kearney Hall) - is open 7am until midnight, seven days a week for students to work in groups. There are five computers in the room. And as always – NO food or drink allowed in our computer labs.
CE 405/505 (Fall 2009) - Project Management for CEs; the class exposes students to problems, techniques, and issues of project management similar to those encountered in the practice of civil engineering. Open to grad and undergrad students. Course description and syllabus here (pdf). . .
Tsinghua Summer School for International Construction and Property - target audience includes senior undergraduate and graduate students from around the world who are interested in the construction / infrastructure / property market of China, US$ 600.00 (last year it was US$1600.00). Fees cover program materials package, certificate of completion of the program, farewell party, and local site visits. OSU makes waves with new "hurricane" maker (Portland Business Journal)
The Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory at OSU has completed installation of a new $1.1 million “hurricane” wavemaker, the largest of its type in the nation. It is able to more accurately simulate the types of waves and flooding that can cause billions of dollars in damage.

Researchers at Oregon State University tested out a new $1.1 million wavemaker Wednesday. The device is designed to accurately simulate waves created by both tsunamis and hurricanes.

Officials with the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory at Oregon State University gave the crowd some idea Wednesday with some water, strategically placed concrete blocks and their new $1.1-million “hurricane wavemaker.”

You can view detailed information about your specific day and time of registration for both phases via your student online services.
- Log into your “Student Online Services” using your student identification and general access pin numbers.
- Choose the Registration menu option.
- Choose “Check Your Registration Status”.
- Choose “Fall 2009” from the drop down box.
- Click “Submit”.
You will see your Phase 1 and Phase 2 registration dates and times displayed just below the text at the top of the page.
