APRIL 20, Monday – ENGINEERING JUSTICE, a partial screening of “When the Levees Broke,” followed with a panel discussion of social justice implications for engineering. LaSells Stewart Center, 6-8pm, for all COE students.

APRIL 21, Tuesday  - OSU Day at the Capitol

APRIL 21-22 - Commencement Countdown, MU Ballroom. Order your cap and gown, and graduation announcements.

APRIL 23, Thursday – Take Your Daughter/Son to Work Day

APRIL 25, Saturday - OSU Robotics Club Rover Challenge Team demos their new rover design while performing tasks in biology, geology, soil analysis, emergency navigation and construction. The event will be at the first covered picnic area in Adair County Park north of Corvallis, 11-2 pm. More info here. . .

APRIL 22, Wednesday - CCE Student Seminars, “Evaluating Safety and Operations of High-Speed Signalized Intersections," presented by Neil Kopper (Transportation), and “Wake Formation behind a Coastal Structure under Solitary Wave Flow: A Flow Visualization and Quantification Approach,” presented by Betsy Seiffert (Coastal and Ocean). 205 Kearney Hall, 5pm. FE REVIEW – the final week. 212 Kearney Hall, 5-7pm, $1 per session. (COE reports that our OSU CE pass rate over the past several years has typically been 95%; nationally the norm has been about 75%. So, bottom line - our students do a good job on the exam!

  • 4/25 -  FE Exam

REMINGTON COMES HOME – during the Kearney renovation, Prof. Hal Pritchett kept our Frederic Remington bronze sculpture in Newport, and now its back! The art, “Coming Through the Rye” was a gift to the School from Sandy and Andy Andersen (Portland) and Ed and Dollie Lynch (Vancouver, WA) in 1998. The sculpture previously resided in the Apperson Hall Library and is now displayed in the Kiewit Center in Kearney Hall. Thanks to Hal and Ann for taking care of this beautiful piece of art.

Would you like to know more about the world famous OSU Wave Lab? The best way to learn is to become a volunteer tour guide!  During MOM’s Weekend, May 2, the Wave Lab will be open for tours from 1-4pm. We need students to lead tours and share information about this exciting place! Students from all departments in the COE are encouraged to participate. Tour guides training either: Friday April 24th Noon to 1 PM OR Wednesday April 29th 4-5 PM. Sign up online here. . . VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - to help design the access road and parking for a new park site in Clackamas County. What we seek is a motivated civil engineering student or group of students to design a quarter mile gravel access road and gravel parking area for 20 vehicles and produce engineering construction documents. This work can be accomplished with part-time effort and up to a $500 stipend is available for completion of documentation. To be considered, we need prospective students to email to thomas.miller@oregonstate.edu their resume and interest before 24 April 2009.

How Does Your Life Experience Shape Your Career Decisions? A 3-week series workshop scheduled for May 5, May 12, and May 19—2:00 to 3:30, at Career Services (B 008 Kerr). Students will take the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory as a part of the group ($14 for each assessment). The group will address the following: Exploration of your career interests and values; Exploration of your personality and how this affects career development; The importance of balance; The importance of diversity and cultural identity in knowing yourself and your career. Morneault receives Marshall Award (Corvallis Gazette Times)
Matthew Morneault (civil engineering) received a George C. Marshall Award as one of the top Army ROTC cadets in the country and will travel to Lexington, Va., to participate in a national security seminar with military leaders.

CEs Compete in Steel Bridge Competition(OSU Daily Barometer)
Prof. Tom Miller leads student group to Helena, MT for ASCE’s regional meet for the steel bridge, concrete canoe, and a (first place!) technical paper competition (congratulations to senior Kristi Currans).
