NOV 24, Monday - "Design and Construction of a Real-Time Ocean Mooring at Strawberry Hill," presented by Daniel Lutz for the degree of Masters of Science in Civil Engineering with a disciplinary focus in Coastal and Ocean Engineering. 320 Owen Hall, 10:00 am. Advisor: Prof. Mick Haller.

NOV. 25, Tuesday – Portfolio Presentation by Habibullah Khan, for a Master of Engineering Degree. 224 Owen Hall, 4:00 pm. Advisor: Prof. Steve Dickenson.

NOV 26, Wednesday - "Microwave Scattering from Surf Zone Waves," presented by Patricio Catalan for a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering with a disciplinary focus in Coastal and Ocean Engineering Major. 193 Burt Hall, 9:00 am. Advisor: Prof. Mick Haller.

HEADS UP – Computer labs are closed for Thanksgiving break, November 27-28.

FE Exam – deadline to apply for the spring exam is December 1, 2008.

MENTORS NEEDED – looking for undergraduate students who have completed ENGR 211 Statics to assist with a new winter term statics peer mentoring program. Mentors will assist ENGR 211 students in lecture (MW 1500-1550) and be available for group tutoring sessions. Mentors should be reliable, have good communication skills, enjoy working with others, and have a good understanding of engineering mechanics concepts. Time commitment is 1-2 hrs per week. Compensation: This is a volunteer program; students assisting regularly in lecture section and tutoring sessions will receive a $150 gift certificate at the end of the term in appreciation of service. HAZWOPER TRAINING CLASS, December 15-19, 2008 from 8-5:00 pm in Gleeson 100. Register (ENVE 406, CRN: 36882 SPEC PROJ/HAZWOPER, 1cr) during winter term registration, as Pass/No Pass. This class is being offered at an economical rate for OSU students (1 credit hour of tuition). An 8 hour HAZWOPER refresher will also be offered at the same time. If you want to take the refresher course just register for the same class (ENVE 406, SPEC PROJ/HAZWOPER, 1cr) but you will only need to attend for one day. Please e-mail Ann Kimerling if you are planning to take the refresher course, she will contact you with date of the refresher course. HAZWOPER training is required of employees engaged in hazardous waste operations, such as removal or handling of underground tanks and/or piping, contaminated soil and/or groundwater, subsurface investigations, construction work in which hazardous materials may potentially be present, or persons working in any facility wherein hazardous wastes are treated, stored, or disposed.
