CE Junior Field Trip to Portland

JR CE FIELDTRIP WRAP UP - our junior class of civil engineering students conducted their annual field trip to Portland at the end of February. They started by visiting an ODOT construction project north of Eugene along I-5. The group also walked through two construction projects run by Hoffman Construction in downtown Portland. The next day the students explored a construction site and pre-cast concrete plant run by Kiewit Construction for the Portland “Big Pipe” storm water drainage system on the east side of the Willamette River in the downtown area.

The students then broke out into smaller groups and visited public agencies and private firms to see what they do, and how they do it. The public agenScies visited were: ODOT, County of Multnomah – Bridge Department, City of Portland – Transportation Section, Port of Portland (airport), US Corps of Engineers, and PGE. The private firms visited were: CH2M-Hill, Degenkolb Engineers, DKS Associates, Kittelson & Associates, KPFF, Murray, Smith & Associates, Parsons, Brinckerhoff, Quade, and Douglas, Inc., David Evans and Associates, and Hoffman Construction.

An informative time was had by all. OSU heartily thanks all the public agencies and private firms that gave of their time and efforts to our CE program!
