Scott Mathewson returns to OSU after a Semester at Sea

My Semester at Sea experience began with a flyer that caught my eye on an MU bulletin board. Navigating to their website and reading the description, and the locations of where I would be traveling, I was instantly sold! I boarded the ship in San Diego, and have made stops in Hawaii, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, India, Egypt, Turkey, and Croatia. The last country I visited was Spain, where I had five exciting days planned for Barcelona, before my final stop in Miami. After my flight back to Oregon, I have completed my circumnavigation of the globe!

The MV Explorer, our lavish means of transportation, is a decommissioned luxury cruise liner that includes a swimming pool, weight lifting deck, and basketball court, to name just a few amenities. The ship life is amazing, with students and faculty from all over the United States, and many from other countries, as well; all with the same goal in mind – experience the cultures of the world through the trip of a lifetime! I would recommend this study abroad experience to anyone with an interest in broader culture, a desire for excitement, and a will for change.

~ Scott Mathewson, CEM sophomore
