FEBRUARY 25, Monday - Society of Women in Engineering Dinner, CH2M HILL Alumni Center, 6:00 pm. Jane Lubchenco is the featured speaker.

FEBRUARY 25-26 – CE Junior Field Trip. Students will spend one day each in Eugene (ODOT & Hoffman projects) and Portland (Big Pipe, City of Portland, Multnomah County, ODOT, Port of Portland, PGE and Corps of Engineers).

FEBRUARY 28, Thursday – Asia Study Abroad Information Meeting, 2:00 pm in 448 Snell Hall. OSU has opportunities in China and Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mongolia, Tibet and Bhutan, Nepal, and Taiwan. 

FEBRUARY 28, Thursday – International Degree Information Meeting, 4:00 pm, 448 Snell Hall. Learn how to earn a second bachelor’s degree in International Studies! OSU’s unique International Degree program provides students in any major with the opportunity to explore your field in an international context, while gaining language proficiency and experience abroad. 

FEBRUARY 28-29 – Oregon Water Rights Workshop, 110 Owen Hall. Pre-registration required.

FEBRURARY 29, Friday – CCE Graduate Open House. Approximately 25 visiting grad students and current CCE students will tour Owen Hall and the OSU campus.

PROF. RAKESH GUPTA was part of a 5-member team who toured the area three weeks after Hurricane Katrina made landfall to assess damage to wood frame buildings due to wind loads. “I was there when hurricane Rita was making a landfall on Texas-Louisiana border,” in a motor home parked at Wal-Mart. The NSF funded project documented the type of damage and its cause due to such an event. Gupta’s “In the Eye of the Storm” photo collage is displayed in Owen Hall Atrium adjacent to our steel bridge. JAVIER MONCADA (BSCE ‘04; MEng ‘07) - ASCE has named 10 dynamic, young engineers as the 2008 New Faces of Civil Engineering. ASCE's New Faces program is part of EWeek's program New Faces of Engineering, which recognizes individuals in all engineering disciplines. ASCE's program highlights the professional contributions of civil engineers and their impact on society. Javier was selected as an EWeek New Face of Engineering, as a part of a special USA Today feature. Moncada is recognized for his post-2004 Indian Ocean tsunami research and volunteer work building schools in Mexico.

GEO 487, an introduction to groundwater hydrology, is an engineering science option.

FEBRUARY 26, Tuesday - AGC Speaker Meeting, 6:00 pm, 106 Owen Hall. Webcor Builders, located throughout California. Topic: Concrete Forming Systems. Dinner and beverages provided.

FEBRUARY 27, Wednesday - ITE Speaker Meeting, 5:00 pm, 103 Owen Hall. Kyung-Hwa Kim, principal planner from METRO will discus, “Metro, MetroScope and Transportation Models.” Food and beverage provided.

FEBRUARY 27, Wednesday – EWB General Meeting, 7:00 pm, Kelly 1001. Free pizza served. The OSU Hydrogen Club will speak about their research on developing algae that releases hydrogen as a byproduct. The Organic Growers Club talked about their farm last week, and would like to know if anybody is interested in working on their irrigation system. The EWB international conference is March 27-30, 2008. Anyone planning to attend should stay after the meeting to talk to about it.
