OCTOBER 22 – Homecoming Week

 

OCTOBER 24, Wednesday – Engineering Career Fair, CH2M-HILL Alumni Center, 11:00 – 4:00.

 

OCTOBER 24, Wednesday – Recruiter Reception in Owen Atrium, 4:00 – 5:30 pm. An opportunity for faculty and staff to meet and interact with industry representatives, many of whom are OSU alumni, following the Engineering Career Fair.

 

OCTOBER 25, Thursday - Homecoming Bonfire, gravel lot behind Callahan, 7:30-10:00 pm.

 

OCTOBER 26, Friday - Campaign for OSU, “the most significant fundraising effort in the university's history.” The Apperson to Kearney Renovation will be a highlight and special celebration that sets the stage for building increased levels of support in the future for faculty, students, programs and laboratories. LaSells Stewart Center, 4:00 - 5:00 pm. Multimedia show, followed by a reception in the lobby. All are invited to attend this free event.

OCTOBER 27, Saturday – OSU Alumni Rugby Game (Peavy Field), 10:00 am.

OCTOBER 25 – “Defining Leadership: What it Means for You,” presented by Dr. Larry Roper, Vice Provost of Student Affairs. Get Involved: A student community symposium. Free dinner, Reser Club Level, 6:00 pm.

FOUND – John Q. Honest turned in a lost calculator to Cindy in 220 Owen.

 

ALUMNA Paula Hammond (nee Cavanaugh) BSCE ’79 – was recently named Secretary of Transportation in Washington by Gov. Chris Gregoire following a national search. More. . .

 

SANDY JAMESON – was awarded her OSU varsity letter at the recent 35th anniversary of Title IX reception and banquet at OSU. In the ‘70s, Sandy competed on OSU’s track team in the quarter-mile and relay.

 

SENIOR PHOTOS – did you miss it? There’s still time - see Julie Barlow (220 Owen) to make an appointment. Photos taken on Monday and Tuesday only.

 

BAND NEEDED - The Third Annual Engineering Ball is February 16, 2008 and they need a band for the event! The Society of Women Engineers is interested in hiring a band, or multiple bands, for the occasion. SWE would like the music at the Ball to be by other engineers to highlight the many talents of the faculty and/or students. Anyone interested in playing at the Ball or would like more information, please contact Jennifer Coe, with the Society of Women Engineers, at coeje@engr.orst.edu.

 

FLU SHOTS – available at the MU; $15/student, $24/faculty-staff. Bring insurance cards.

 

CEM STUDENTS - There will be an AGC Sponsored Tailgater before the Stanford football game Saturday (10/27) from 12:00 pm - Game time. It will be located in the parking lot between Kelley Engineering Center and American Dream Pizza. BBQ will be provided. Please RSVP to Grant Lappi (lappig@onid.orst.edu) by Friday if you plan on attending. This is a great way to connect with classmates outside the classroom setting!

ADVISING
--------------------

GRADUATING SENIORS (Fall 2007 - Fall 2008) - applications for graduation are due now. If you graduate;

    Winter 2008 – applications due October 26
    Spring 2008 - applications due November 2

Applications are at the Registrar's Office or we have a limited supply in 220 Owen Hall.

 

WINTER TERM ADVISING - starts Wednesday, Oct. 31 through Friday, Nov. 2. Your advisors will post sign-up sheets early next week. Registration begins on Sunday, Nov. 1.  

 

ALL NEW STUDENTS NEED TO SEE THEIR ADVISOR! If your Spring term OSU GPA was below a 2.5, you must see your advisor. If your Spring term OSU GPA was above a 2.5, you do not have to see your advisor but may pick up your Advising & Audit sheet along with your PIN starting on Monday, October 29 in 220 Owen, please bring picture ID. For those of you that need to see your advisor, your advisor will have your file and PIN, just go to their office and sign up for an appointment. See Sandy if you have any questions.

OCTOBER 25, Thursday - ASCE Speaker Meeting, 6:00 pm, 103 Owen Hall. Power Engineers will make a presentation on, “Hellacious Construction,” Transmission Line Construction in Hell’s Canyon. Interviews will follow the presentation; sign-up on the door of 246 Owen Hall. Food and drinks provided.
