OCTOBER 8, Monday - Columbus Day is a federal holiday (no US mail deliveries), commemorating Christopher Columbus' journey to the 'New World'.
OCTOBER 10 - ENGINEERING AWARENESS WEEK. Unsure about which major to pursue in engineering? Want a better understanding of your chosen field? Confused by all of the degree options out there? Civil and construction engineering presentations in 102 Owen Hall, 6:00 and 7:00 pm.
OCTOBER 11, Thursday - High Tech After Hours is a business-to-business expo and the largest gathering of the technology community in the entire mid-Willamette Valley. Come and discover the newest technologies being developed locally. Many of these companies are looking to hire. Attendance is open to the public and includes speaker presentations. OSU students get in free with ID. CH2M-Hill Alumni Center, 2:00 - 8:00 pm.
OCTOBER 12, Friday – The Covell-Dearborn-Batcheller parking lot will be closed for delivery of a large wave energy linear test bed.

OCTOBER 16 - CCE Sustainability Faculty Candidate presentation by Leidy Klotz. 106 Owen Hall, 10:30 am. All faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

CE SENIOR PHOTOS - there is a sign up sheet on Cindy's desk in 220 Owen Hall (CEM senior photo shoot scheduled later). The photos will be taken on Friday October 19, from 11:00 -1:30 in 320 Owen Hall. A $15 charge to your student account provides each person with a copy of the composite photo (the actual cost is $25 but the department pays $10). You MUST sign up by noon next Thursday, October 11. If you want to order a portrait package, bring a $10 deposit to the sitting.
ENGINEERING CAREER FAIR – is October 24 in the CH2M-Hill Alumni Center. Vendor registration is full (150 companies!) and additional engineering firms will attend on October 23. Now is a good time to update your resume to interview for fulltime or internship jobs. See the companies attending here. And take advantage of the many opportunities Career Services offers for personal development.

Winter term applications for the Professional program are now available online at http://engr.oregonstate.edu/students/apps/. Applications are due November 1, 2007.

OCTOBER 9, Tuesday – AGC Student Chapter Meeting. Memberships will be sold, $10 for the year; $15, after 10/31/07. Speakers from Anning Johnson Company in Portland will present. 103 Owen Hall, 6:00 pm. Dinner and soft drinks provided.
OCTOBER 10, Wednesday – ACSM Student Chapter Meeting, 110 Owen Hall, 5:00 pm. Steve Townsen, from the City of Portland, will speak on surveying in a government agency and CECOP surveying internship opportunities. Pizza and drinks provided.
OCTOBER 10, Wednesday – ITE Student Chapter Meeting, 106 Owen Hall, 6:00 pm. “Multi-Modal Microsimulation and its Application to complex Transportation Projects,” presented by Mr. Thomas Bauer, PTV America. Food and drinks provided

OCTOBER 19, Friday - ASCE Host-A-Student dinner, held at OIT. The event will be attended by civil engineering students from OIT, UP, PSU, and OSU. This is a great opportunity to network with professionals in the engineering field. The cost of this event is FREE for all civil engineering students; everything will be covered by our OSU ASCE chapter. Sign up with Cindy Olson in 220 Owen Hall. The last day to sign up is Wednesday, October 10. We will leave Corvallis at 1:00 on Friday and return the following afternoon. The dinner speaker is Patric Manly who will speak about Engineering in Sudan.
