SEPTEMBER 17, Monday – Dean Ron Adams welcomes Scott to the College of Engineering and thanks Ken. 10:00-11:00 am, Owen Atrium, light refreshments.

SEPTEMBER 18, Tuesday – Faculty/Staff Retreat, MU 213; followed by CCE picnic in Avery Park

SEPTEMBER 19, Wednesday – COE Breakfast, MU Ballroom, 8:00 am

SEPTEMBER 20, Thursday – OSU University Day, LaSells Stewart Center, 8:30 am

SEPTEMBER 20, Thursday - Ice-Cream Social for all incoming and current COE students, to meet current faculty and staff. KEC outdoor quad area.

SEPTEMBER 21, Friday - New Incoming Graduate Orientation, 103 Owen Hall, 10:00 am. Faculty and current graduate students encouraged to attend.

SEPTEMBER 22-23 - Corvallis Fall Festival. An arts and crafts fair, music & entertainment, and 5K/10K run.

DARREN HIPPENSTIEL (BSCE ‘03) was recipient of the 2007 ASCE Oregon Section, “Young Engineer of the Year” award. Nominees of this annual award are selected by their colleagues, based on exhibited technical competence and integrity, advancement of the profession, contributions to ASCE and the Oregon Section, and public service outside of the profession. WAVE LAB SIMULATES TSUNAMI – in a Lilliputian-sized Seaside, Oregon. Related story and short video.

PARKING LOT CLOSED – the area located southeast of Apperson, near Benton Hall will be closed during the Apperson Hall renovation after September 21, 2007. Contractors will utilize this parking lot as a construction staging area.

CHRIS BELL HEADS TO INDIA – to represent OSU on a recruiting trip to India. COE enrolls the largest number of Indian students on campus, with approximately 100 Indian students currently enrolled. More. . .

STUDENT CHAPTERS
--------------------
BIG BEAM TEAM TAKES SECOND PLACE – CE students won second place and a $1,750 cash award in the international “2007 Engineering Design Awards - Big Beam Contest” submitted in June and judged in August. The Prestress Concrete Design course is taught in winter term and sponsored by Oregon Precast Concrete Institute (Knife River and RB Johnson). Students who participate in the contest design, fabricate and test during Spring term. Thanks to the competition sponsors Knife River (forms, concrete and production), OSU (testing facility and staff), Sumiden (prestressing strand) and Farwest (reinforcement), and congratulations to our hard-working OSU team!
