JUNE 2, Saturday – Corvallis' 150th Birthday Picnic in Central Park (6th & Monroe Ave), 2:00-5:30 pm. Music, games, and a birthday cake that can feed 500 people!

MAY 30, Wednesday – Structural Engineers Association of Oregon meeting. Ed Huston Principal in Smith & Huston, Inc. Consulting Engineers and is Vice President - President Elect of NCSEA (National Council of Structural Engineers) speaks on NCSEA involvement in the Post Hurricanes Katrina and Rita disaster evaluation. OSU students and faculty are invited. 4:45 pm -5:15 Gather; 5:15 to 6:30 Presentation. Light refreshments provided. CH2M HILL (2300 NW Walnut Blvd, Corvallis)

JUNE 1, Friday –"Movement of the Neutral Axis in Wood Beams," an Honor's Thesis presentation by Sarah Holm. Mentors are and Dr. Miller and Dr. Gupta. 324 Owen Hall, 2:00 pm.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

A NEW BEGINNING - After a year-long process, we are now officially recognized as the SCHOOL of CIVIL and CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING. We hope to go live with our new CCE website shortly. Dr. Scott Ashford, our new school head, joins us in July, http://ccee.oregonstate.edu/news/story/2104.

CONGRATULATIONS to our MCAA Student Chapter, who received a Mechanical Contractors Association, “National Chapter of Excellence Award” for $3,000! Thanks to Ryan Hoefer (2007-08 Student Chapter President) for his work putting together the application.

AND MORE CONGRATULATIONS to Mark Dolan, who was recently promoted to Associate Professor with tenure, beginning in 2007-08.

TRAFFIC SIGNAL SUMMER WORKSHOP will be held from August 5-10, 2007 on the University of Idaho Campus. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience with traffic signal systems. Applications are due on June 4. More information here.

NEED A SUMMER JOB? Two CCE students needed for a painting / cleaning / moving crew. Preference given for those taking classes. Another preference is for faculty/staff kids looking for summer work. This job is heavy, hard, hot and boring. The successful applicants should be able to stand on a ladder, lift office furniture, and be familiar with power shop tools. We can teach you to paint. The hourly wage is $8.50/hr. Contact Ann Kimerling.

MAY 31, Thursday – SPEAKER MEETING with West-Yost Associates. Curious about what types of projects entry level engineers work on? Dianne Lee will speak about what new engineers can expect in the workplace. 320 Owen Hall, 5:30-6:30 pm. Food provided.

HELP REBUILD WILDCAT PARK - at Wilson Elementary School . A great community service opportunity for everyone! Saturday, June 2 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Sign up with Cindy Olson in 220 Owen Hall.
