FEBRUARY 19, Monday – Presidents Day is a holiday for the US Postal Service; no mail delivered today.

FEBRUARY 19-22 – OSU Blood Drive, American Red Cross. MU Ballroom, daily from 11:00-4:00 pm.

FEBRUARY 21, Wednesday - Engineering Career Fair, CH2M-HILL Alumni Center, 11:00 - 4:00 pm. (Take updated resumes)

FEBRUARY 23, Friday – Oregon Stater Awards. 2007 Civil and Construction Engineering award recipients include Ken Durant (Industrial Design and Construction), Bill Jabs (W&H Pacific), Tom Skoro (Kiewit), Parke Ball (Kiewit), Steve Stockton (US Army Corp of Engineers), Doug Tindall (ODOT), Catherine Mater (Mater Engineering), and Mike Baker (David Evans & Associates). Previous year's award winners will also be in attendance. Reception in Owen Hall Atrium, 1:30 - 3:30 pm. All are welcome.

FEBRUARY 24, Saturday – Balsa Wood Bridge Contest. Over 100 high school students from around the state arrive to test their balsa wood bridge models until failure with a chance to move on to a national competition. This annual contest is sponsored by CH2M-HILL and hosted by our ASCE Student Chapter. 102 Owen Hall, 8:00 am; testing wraps up by 3:00 pm.

FEBRUARY 24, Saturday – 2nd Annual Engineering Ball, Kelly Engineering Atrium, 7:00-11:00 pm. This is a formal dance for teachers, students, staff, friends, and their dates. Appetizers are available from 7-9 pm and desserts from 9-11 pm. Tickets are $10 for two people and are available in the MUPC Office (MU 103).

FEBRUARY 26, Monday - National Engineers Week Banquet. Keynote speaker is Dr. Carolyn Duran, Intel Corporation. CH2M Hill Alumni Center, 6:00 pm. Contact Toni Doolen, doolen@engr.orst.edu, 737-5641.

FEBRUARY 20, Tuesday – "Real-Time Traffic Maps for the Internet and Mobile Devices," presented by Mr. Kirk Goldsberry, doctoral candidate, Department of Geography, UC-Santa Barbara. Gilfillan Auditorium, 4:00 pm. Geovisualization Seminar.

FEBRUARY 23, Friday – “Strain Distribution in OSB and Gypsum in Wood Frame Shear Wall,” Master of Science thesis defense by Arijit Sinha (dual wood science and civil engineering major). 107 Richardson Hall, 3:00 pm. Major advisor: Dr Rakesh Gupta.

CE vs. CEM BASKETBALL GAME – is on Friday February 23. Come out and show your support for both teams. The game will be held in Langton Hall at 5:00 pm. THESIS/DISSERTATION LITERATURE REVIEW WORKSHOP – unclear about how to start on your thesis/dissertation literature review? Fuzzy on how to keep track of all your sources, searches, and all the new research in your field? Wondering how you'll keep up once you've done your initial work? Wish you could maneuver in the library catalog and article databases more efficiently? ME 569, Spring 2007 - Hydrodynamic Instability: introduction to the concepts of stability theory and its application to classical and emerging fluid flow phenomena. Instructor Jim Liburdy, 7-7017, james.liburdy@oregonstate.edu. Prerequisite: an undergraduate course in fluid mechanics.

ADVISING

SPRING TERM REGISTRATION - begins Sunday, February 25. To avoid difficulties, please take advantage of the advice and instructions offered here. Get a Spring 2007 Schedule of Classes at the Registrar's Office or go online for an up to the minute version.

Confirm your advisor assignment on the Advisor Assignments List posted on this board. Advising will be Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (Feb. 21-23) unless otherwise posted outside your Advisor's Office. All students that had a Fall term GPA below a 2.5 must see their advisor to get their PIN. If your Fall term PIN was above a 2.5 GPA, go to 220 Owen to get a copy of your audit sheet and your PIN (please have picture ID available).

1.  General Advising Assistance - If you have questions or special problems, see Sandy in 203 Owen. I want to help.

2.  Petition Forms - Head Advisor's signature required. Typically, these forms are required for: PRE students who need to register for PRO courses. These petitions will be processed as soon as the current term grades are available.

 

Contact the Head Advisor to do overrides if:

 - You need PRO courses but the system won't allow you to register due to being here on exchange

 - You are a Professional level student and have a Dean's hold on your record due to your academic progress towards your degree.

 

Last day to withdraw from a course is Friday, February 23 - 11:55 PM

Last day to Change Grading Basis (S/U to A/F or A/F to S/U) is Friday, February 23 - 5 PM

FEBRUARY 24, Saturday – Balsa Wood Bridge Contest, sponsored by ASCE. This competition is open to high school students who have designed and built balsa wood bridges according to CH2M-Hill's criteria. The bridges will be tested by loading them until failure, and the top three will continue on to a national competition. We need volunteers to help with registration and testing at 8:00 am. This a great opportunity to influence possible future engineers as well as network with practicing engineers from CH2M-Hill. Sign up sheets are available on Cindy's desk.
