The OSU CEM Program started a MCAA Student Chapter in the fall of 2004. One
of the first efforts was to enter the annual MCCA Student Chapter Competition.
This competition pits OSU CEM students against student teams from 24 other construction
programs from around the nation. After submitting an initial proposal design
and construction of the mechanical facilities for a performing arts center,
in December 2004, the OSU CEM team was short-listed along with three other schools.
The team then traveled to Scottsdale Arizona in March to make a final presentation
to an “owners panel” competition.
Travel expenses for the second competition were provided by the Plumbing and
Mechanical Contractors Association of Oregon, southwest Washington, and northern
California. Other support was provided by Temp Control Mechanical and Alliant
Systems of Portland.
