A Long Career
Gordon Vernon Skelton's career at Oregon
State bridged the 19th and 20th centuries and spanned 44 years. He was
an early professor in math and civil engineering and, according to the Biennial
Report of 1906-08, was "placed in charge" of the new Department
of Civil Engineering in 1906. Later he was head of the Department of
Highway Engineering, then Superintendent of Roads and Walks for the
campus. Here are some items and photos from the OSU archives on this
major but overlooked figure from OSU's past.
