How to Identify a McCullough Bridge

Materials: smaller bridges are concrete; larger bridges are steel and concrete
Shape: usually massive, arch-shaped structures, especially if made of reinforced concrete
Design features: pylons or obelisks decorating both ends of the bridge and sometimes the middle. Many are art deco; some are Egyptian-inspired.
Another trademark is gothic or Romanesque arches, seen in handrails or as part of the bridge foundation. Pedestrian walkways were often incorporated into McCulloughs bridges. The largest bridges feature archways and stairways leading from the road deck to the beach or pedestrian plazas.
